Xtrac 386 Sequential 6 Speed Transaxle for a Daytona Prototype / Formula One / Trophy Truck. This Transaxle was purchased as a spare for a race team and was gone through by Greg at Indy Competition. The stack components were all in excellent condition. prior to me purchasing the unit for a project. It comes with the input shaft, and an additional new 3rd gear (different ratio than what is in the stack currently) (New in the box cost $1000) with a ratio of 17:28. The gear ratios in the transmission are listed on the tag in the photographs. This was intended to go in a Porsche 962 and my builder backed out of the project. I have been holding on to it hoping to resurrect the 962 build , but I could use the money for other car projects that are under way. These Transaxles were over $40,000.00 from Xtrac new. The unit weights approximately 170 lbs and I will not ship this unit, so it is for local pick up only.
The P386 gearbox is one of Xtrac’s legacy products, which whilst not currently in production, spares and technical support are still available upon request from Xtrac.
Xtrac’s P386 mid-engine longitudinal transaxle and has been developed from the highly successful and durable 386 Daytona gearbox and has been optimised for the GRAND-AM Daytona Prototype series but is well suited to all categories of Sportscar racing where performance and reliability are required.
Drive is fed from Daytona proven gear ratio’s mounted behind the axle center line, through a final drive hypoid spiral bevel gear set, with a larger hypoid than the original 386 gearbox, allowing the engine to be mounted low in the car thus benefiting weight distribution without compromising drive shaft angles, or efficiency.
