2008 Ford F-350 Super Duty - $12,900

For sale as-is: 2008 Ford F-350 Super Duty Lariat, crew cab, long bed (8 ft), 4x4, single rear wheel, 6.4L Power Stroke diesel, automatic, 123,000 miles. White with tan leather interior. Rust-free Southern truck.

THE DIAGNOSIS, UP FRONT: It starts and runs rough. A shop did the initial diagnosis and a partial teardown — top of the engine off, rocker arms inspected and intact, no metal shavings found — and the fault points to a likely lifter. Most of the shop's repair quote was labor. I bought a new truck and I'm not putting shop-labor money into this one — that's the whole reason it's for sale as-is.

IF YOU TURN YOUR OWN WRENCHES, DO THE MATH IN HOURS: The lifter job books 28.3 hours. A documented home-shop lifter-and-cam job on a 6.4 ran about 24 hours from diagnosis to test drive, with parts just under $3,000 — one long weekend, cab off and back on (these trucks were designed for cab-off work). Or skip the valvetrain and drop in a used or reman motor instead — your call, same weekend-scale job. Running right, a truck in this condition at this mileage is a high-teens to low-$20k truck.

THE TRUCK ITSELF: Second owner, well maintained, all original — never tuned, never deleted, never a project truck, no aftermarket mess to undo. Never in an accident. Tires have under 10,000 miles on them. Bed (tonneau) cover, tow hitch, running boards, spare tire, and 2 sets of keys included.

One cosmetic item, disclosed honestly: a scrape/dent on the lower rear bedside, shown in the photos — no hiding it.

- Starts, and will drive onto a trailer under its own power
