This 1979 Fiat X1/9 was delivered new to the original and current owner in Detroit Michigan, in August 1979 and is offered with owner’s and service manuals, the original window sticker, a tool kit, all maintenance and upgrades bill & orders during its ownership. The low miles of this car are two fold — it was was stored for 3.5 years as a result of the owner transferred to the UK and the majority of time spent in Connecticut, meaning use was limited due to winter weather. Currently, it has a clean GA title, is currently insured and licensed with all safety items functioning including lights and internal & external signaling. This Fiat starts right up and drives well, perhaps as well as when new. As developed for sale in the 70s, the two-seater featured sharp-edged styling with a wedge shape, retractable headlights, an integrated front spoiler and removable hard top roof panel, and enclosed front & rear luggage compartments. The MG Midget and Triumph Spitfire were the competitors at the time. After Fiat exited the US market in 1982, Bertone assumed manufacturing responsibility for the X1/9 and continued to market the car until 1989.
Power comes from a 1.5-liter single overhead cam inline-four [75 horsepower and 80 ft-lb of torque] paired with a five-speed manual transaxle four-wheel disc brakes and four-wheel independent suspension. Maintenance included replacements and upgrades of the brakes, suspension systems, timing belt, carburetor upgrade, engine gaskets, Allison headers & exhaust and more..Throughout the x1/9 life, regular changing the oil, flushing the coolant, replacing brake fluid, and maintaining the fuel system , ignition components as well as replacing the battery and air filter.
The X1/9 is finished in Burgundy over tan upholstery with brown and beige fabric accents on the backrest bolsters joined by color-coordinated door panels and carpets. The interior of the car is in great condition with all features working. with the exception the weak glovebox left hinge spring does not work (still can be opened).. From the drivers’ seat the RUSPA three-spoke steering wheel fronts the original gauges including an 140-mph speedometer and a reverse-sweep 8k-rpm tachometer as well as gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 32,335 miles, all under the original & current ownership.
