FOR SALE – 1982 VW Rabbit Racecar
Well built, well used, well loved – no logbooks, but lots of cage stickers and has some degree of racing/rally pedigree. It has its fair share of scuffs and scrapes, but it is a solid reliable car. It does come with a clean title.
Engine – currently a 2.0 ABA block w/ 8V 1.8 hydro head (several other spare engines/transmissions/parts available). Dual side-draft Weber 45 DCOE carbs. Not exactly sure which cam it has, but those familiar tell me it is one of the larger TT cams.
Transmission – currently has a 4Y (close ratio 5 speed) 020 w/ Peloquin 80% LSD. I have a few spare transmissions including a custom-built 020 with a welded diff, but the final drive let go, so it needs a rebuild.
Brakes – all in good working order. Has front/rear proportioning valve in cockpit.
Rollcage – by all accounts this is a very good roll cage. I don't have any specifics, but people with knowledge of the car tell me that no expense was spared here.
Suspension – adjustable coilvers – I believe these were custom built for this car.
Wheels & Tires – 3 sets of Menards ice racing tires, one set of snow/storage tires, and at least one extra set of 13” or 14” wheels. Also have a set of Sparco wheels with a brand new set of Falken Azenis 615k TW200 tires available for an extra $600.
Spares – a couple boxes of various parts, extra set of axles, 020 trans, JH engine. Full separate full-race engine + welded diff transmission available for another $600. You will also get all of my pictures, electronic records, receipts, etc.
This MK1 is an awesome light platform (weighs ~2000#) with lots of support (Techtonics Tuning, VW Vortex, etc. etc) and a pretty inexpensive way to get out racing. If you are looking to go door-to-door you can hop right in with the International Ice Racing Association OR get an SCCA/NASA/ARA tech/logbook inspection (you will at least need fire suppression and current belts, seats, etc.) as this car has not been campaigned in a sanctioning body for several years.
To make this car street legal would only take adding blinkers
