Here you go again . . The Government (no matter which party is running it at any specific time) is in the "Real Estate Business" . . and they are in the catbird seat when it comes to leasing these land's mineral rights . . which leads to paying off the Legislators in congress to get drilling rights, which may be then cancelled upon election of new legislators . . It's a major base of Political Corruption and it's gone on since the need for oil became obvious, (1920 or so) sending several Congressmen to jail over the years and tainting at least three White House Occupants . .
Give all federal lands, except national parks, back to the States and let them administer them individually . . Do away with the EPA and create a new oversight commission for environmental protection of both legislators and businessmen . . with equal voting powers . .
That would be a start . .
