Crank/Cam

1. How much crank thrust is allowable on a stock crank shaft? 327/LE 275HP stock motor.

2. W/ Stock internals, 202/160 aluminum heads, new RPM intake, 4-spd trans, what is a good cam lift/duration without going to high but getting decent choppy sound?

3. Oil pump: stock or high volume???

4. Quiet gear drive... still pretty noisy? Bad idea/good idea? never ran one....

Just freshening this motor; keeping it pretty stock.

4 Speed thrust clearance .005" to .009"

Hydraulic Flat tappet, Comp Cams 12-242-2 or 12-246-3, after more of a lopey sound, 12-600-4 or 12-601-4 Muther Tumper cam.

Stock Volume pump is fine for Street use.

Gear drives I would stay away from, I would stay with a good roller timing chain.

x2 The harmonics are transferred to the crank and it's bad news for cast iron cranks.

That makes sense on the gear drive... never thought about that... they must be dang rigid on internals that are stock.
