I've used Chute Metal & Simpson. Both crossform and almost identical. Only diff is the shroud lines and you can still get Simpson....

Thanks did they hit hard when opening ?

johnracer 06-11-2010 04:51 AM

Not really. It depends on the weight and speed. My dragster only weighed 1500lbs and ran around 150. It hit harder than my Vette with the same size & style chute at 2222lbs and 158mph....neither felt particularly hard to me.

Ive got a Simspon on the back of a 3000lb Chevelle.
I dont feel it at all back there when i open it up.

Stroud is by far the easiest to repack ... 180mph dont even know its back there, I've thrown it once just to be sure it goes out.

I use two Stroud chutes. They are designed to open softer than cross form chutes. They have a spring launcher and are real easy to pack. There is a good article on Dragstuff.com written by Bob Stroud about the differences in the two designs.
