4 spd or th 350

OK long story short my muncie took a crap today and I have a th 350 layin under the bench with a shift kit and 3500 stall convertor in it. Am I gonna gain anything other than consistency with the auto?? I like rowin thru the gears but if I can knock a couple tenths off my ET it would be worth it.

From what I hear automatics are faster than sticks. I just dont know bout the converter. I am still new to drag racing and am trying to learn as much as I can from these guys on here.

I think it will depend on your skills with the standard shift .

with your car being so heavy you should go with the 400.

the 1 2 shift is brutal on the sprag if it is built,But if ya got it,smoke it.

oh,I don't think it will be faster

the other thing is this a really nice car? SS, or Original 4 speed

to some it is nice, its just a nice driver to me. Not anything special just a 307 powerglide car. Oh yeah what first gear ratio does a 350 have?

FullTimeRacing 09-06-2009 07:29 PM

220 something I belive not sure.on the gear ratio

the monte carlo to the left wheighs 2850# now,the door sticker said 4600 something #'s

If it's a race car then go ALL the way. gut it. JMO

I believe it is 2.52 1st gear and the TH400 is 2.48

NOT 100% sure but I do know those numbers are really close.

I dont have a th 400 or thats what I would put in it . I have a fresh 350 just sittin around, I think I might throw it in this week. Is there someone who makes pre bent trans lines?? I hate buyin a strait set and bending them myself, they end up lookin horrible

They are easy to find for a Chevelle.Just look in a restoration catalog but be prepared to pay about 5 times what they are actually worth. :D
