alloy rods
 
hi just woundering if driving my car to the start line & back down the return road will shorten the life of alloy rods .

its a sbc sb2 headed hopping to make around the 830 hp in a 2700pnd car

Engine cycles at full power are used to factor rod life, not return road idling or warm ups in the pit. Drive it if you can, you will get to the pit quicker to begin charging and cooling for the next round.

Topspeed is absolutely right, there is not enough loading at idle or just above to do any real damage to the rods. It is the full load cycling that does the damage (I.E. reaching their cycle life per x amount of passes). Just make sure everything is good and warm before running the motor hard. The rods need to be expanded to there hot running dimensions.
