New pushrods for BBC
Hi,
what kind of pushrods you recommend? Bracket race BBC, 3/8" thick max (for existing guide plates), 7200rpm max, 200+ lbs at the seat, 700 open of valve pressure. I need to measure the lenght first, but I'm looking for general recommandations please. Chromemoly with heat treating and 0.080" wall thickness should handle it? Comp cams, Manley, Crane or what? thanks, Mikko |
I used comp cams HI-Tech one piece units on my BBC race motor.
They sell them indiviually and in a vast array of lenghts so you can get your rocker arm geometry as close as possible. They were priced good too. |
Call Manton...maybe he can make you some 3/8 that are heavier than .080 because you need 7/16 pushrods with your set up.
Comp Crane Manley etc don't make their pushrods...I think TREND makes many of them and just etches their name on them...They are good pushrods but bigger would be better. |
Call Terry at Manton. They offer 5 different series of pushrods and he can make you a set with .120 or .145 wall 3/8ths pushrods and he is reasonable on his pushrod prices.
I bought a set of 24 degree heads from RFD and Curtis had mentioned to call him for a set of pushrods. I ended up with the Series 5 (.120) wall pushrods for non-guideplate use for under $300. Hope this helps. http://www.mantonpushrods.com/ |
Like the others have said, if you can, it would be easier and cheaper in the long run to change the guide plates to 7/16" and use .080 7/16" push rods, stronger and safer on a b/blk.

How much difference is there in .300" taller lifters and "stock" Mark IV BBC lifters. My friend has both of them and he said that the pushrod cup is .100" higher in the .300" lifter, can somebody confirm that?

Maybe find out what kind of lifters he has and contact the tech department there. That way you will know for sure. JMO :D
