10 yrs ago at a dragstrip long gone, a racer was testing a beautiful
camero of the yr, it was real nice, went down the strip for the first
time, the burned to the ground in the traps, the guy was fine, but
he had no insurance on the car, it went in the 7's on its only run.
all that was left was the motor and all the tubing, it looked like a
sand buggy with melted tires, that was sad to see but the
guy was fine 8)

We were at our bracket finals a few years ago, guys are making time trial runs and we here over the intercom something about a plane. We all run out of our trailers and look up, sure enough there is a single engine plane landing on the track. Two guys went under him as he is descending, the plane just missed power lines that cross over the track. I don't know how but he didn't take out the center cones. He taxied to about 100 FT out from the tree, hops out and wants to know why there are concrete barriers lining the landing strip. This guy was about 80 yrs old.

That day the winds were from the east or west one or the other so they were landing planes at the Tulsa airport on the runway that lines up perfectly with the track but is a couple of miles west. He got lined up by the tower looked down saw the strip and landed real fast before realizing where he was. He was from Arizona and that's where he flew in from so he wasn't familiar with the area.

Sad thing is, but probably safest thing, that they took his liscense away. No way to hide what he did because he was in class 'c' , I think it is, air space.
