steam holes sbc 400 heads/

Do i really need to have them?im only going to race the car.I would hate to drill into my new afr heads.

According to what I have read no.The proviso was,as long as the engine sees little to no low speed operation.

Nope not on a drag car, no one i know ever drills the steam holes in their heads, in fact use a gasket that does not include the steam holes.

AFTER READING DART AND AFR'S WEB SITE THEY RECCOMEND DRILLING STEAM HOLES,I GUESS IT'S ALL UP TO EACH INDIVIDUAL ENGINE BUILDER.

Between my brother, Dad, an myself we have run a LOT of 400's starting about 1979, never drilled any, even on street engines. Don't waste your time.

No need to drill them. I have ran 400 blocks for about 4 years now everyweekend at the track and no issue's.
