Wouldn't you need to know how big the bore is to give a solid answer on this? Piston rock could come into play depending on just how big of and engine he is building right?

I think doorracer is right if you run a good forged piston you need atleast .005/.006 clearance and you have to consider the rock of the piston. JE's recommendation of .040 is a safe one with "0" deck ht., the last 468" i put together i used .039 Felpro gaskets and it has 2618 flattop forged pistons with .0065 clearance. I put that much clearance in the motor because the owner wanted to be able to spray a 250 shot of nitrous. It's a pump gas motor and runs 6.80's 1/8 mi. no spray in a 3700lb street car.
