BBC rod information needed!
Hey guys, I need some input on a good reliable connecting rod for the street. I have a Donavon aluminum block and a Calies crank that I picked up and now need the rods, this is a street motor, 10.5-1 compression 632(I wanted to be different, I guess). Heres my problem, I don't want to buy the Oliver billet rods since it is for the street, just wondering if the Eagle rods, or the Compstar rods are worth a damn to put in here.
Thanks Andrew |
You may want to look at the Crower sportsman rod,its conservatively rated for 850+ h.P. and costs $732.00 per set, a little better than Olivers at $1160.48 Its also considerably stronger than the eagles or Compstar. Bill

Callies Compstars are a great rod for the money.
I just kicked a Oliver Billet in my motor @ 190 passes. My motor shop has had nothing but Olivers break, eagle, ohio crankshaft & callies would be a good choice. I am going to put one of them 3 in my motor this time. |
You would probably be better off replacing the oliver rod, there far stronger than any of the rods you listed.was the big end discolored?if so it was a bearing failure not a rod failure.we use and sell a lot of oliver rods and other than using the upgraded bolt there has never been any problems with them.Bill

No bearing failure rod just broke, several motor builders that build a lot of big power motors will not put them in motors because they break more often then not. I wont put them in anything I run from now on.

Got any pics of the rod failure,I'd like to see where it failed?

Rods!
Okay guys, here it is, 632 on pump gas, roller motor going to make around 900 hp!!! Realistically what is the best rod to use, no spray. Just don't want to short myself on this part. Had a set of Oliver billets, burned through the converter and chunked 2 rods out the side on a 540 I had.

Crower 94 series Maxi Light or Dyers, both are 300M material.Carrillo also makes a very good rod. all three are high dollar rods but cheap if you consider a failure.Bill

hammertime, don't knock billet rods or you will get a back ground check from the f.b.t lol.
