Hurt my motor today

Well since it was my birthday decided get my car out and go have some fun. Looks like I may have spun a bearing first time in several years I was going to be able to run regularly. Looks like I
Will be pulling the motor in a week or two.

Man not a good way to start the season, I was wondering if you were coming to Super Chevy next weekend at Memphis, i'll have lot's of friends there, and probably go myself but not running.

Hate to here that, and I may ride up and do some swap meet digging myself...

That sucks!

Swiley383 04-07-2014 10:14 AM

It could be worse their could be a hole in the side of the block.I hope I wont have to spend a crap load of money to fix it.

I was going to put the motor back solid roller I priced some cams, lifters, and the rest of the pieces needed. I can't afford that right now. Depending on what I find when I do the tear down I my end up putting my old motor back in for a while while I fix this one. Just have to see what all got damaged and go from there.

The Super Chevy swap meet this weekend could be your friend then...

Swiley383 04-08-2014 06:36 PM

I wish I could go but I won't be able to. Sure sounds fun

Really sorry for the bad luck with your engine. I hate to hear about anyone losing one, knowing how bad it would set me back if it happened to me.

That sucks. Hope it's not to bad. I'm still waiting to get mine back after it dropped a valve last year.

Finally got a chance to pull the oil pan off my motor NOT GOOD. The oil pump pick up broke off about an inch from the pump how it had any oil pressure I have no idea. Lots of. Bearing material in the pan I haven't pulled a cap yet but by the stuff in the pan I would say the crank will need turning. The fact that it did not put a rod thru the block amazes me.

Here is a picture of what the pan looked like

Unfortunately, I have seen a good many of those 'bolt on' pickups do that. I tack mine in place like the old days, even when I use them as a result...

Swiley383 04-20-2014 07:01 AM

I always have tacked them on but this was the first bolt on pick up I have used. The instructions said not to but I will from now on.

What do you guys think should I open up the wallet and go back solid roller or stick with a solid flat tapped. I would like to run 6.90- 7.00 1/8 mi range. I have good heads a 12.6 to compression the motor never ran what I felt it should. I have been going back and forth on this I am driving my wife crazy trying to decide.

MEMRACING62 04-27-2014 12:48 PM

Kinda hard to see crank surface....hope she's alright....lost a block and crank due to spun bearing due to a past owner using Teflon tape to install a oil pressure sending unit....oil hole plugged with tape in block.
