73 CAMARO Z-28 " Whats it worth"

when I was a teen I had 6 or 7 of these but have lost touch in what they are worth.

this weekend I spotted a 73 z-28..=I matched the trim tag and its a REAL Z. Factory 4 speed.. its a 350ci with boost power brakes.....its been repainted white with two black strips, original color was a light Blue...interior is fair , dash is Good..clutch and tranny feels ok sitting there feeling thru the gears...I looked at it last night with no lights and saw it had a contortion bar under the rear housing which led me to think it could be a real Z..when I went back today without Wife and Kid...and further inspected I found it was a Z.

Its got aluminum world heads someone painted chevy Orange..paint is good, floor pans good etc....

just wondering what they bringing ???.....the price is $8500 on this one.

Thanks

here's a pic I took with my cell phone about 30 away. just zoomed it in..gives you some idea.

Its worth that price all day if the floorboards, trunk pan, rear frame rails and subframe are all soliid. Theres a few on ebay in worse shape for the same money. If you can talk the down a grand or a little more, it would be a good score :!:

outlaw256 10-09-2011 08:15 PM

if all is well, its a great score.they are gettin harder to find. i have seen them go for alot more around here.

Surprised to hear "8500" ... is it number matching block casting? True 4-spd car? Maybe if it is a virgin, you can find a build sheet on her somewhere. Price sounds good... to good for a lot.

bjuice 10-10-2011 01:55 PM

thanks Bone,Outlaw and Rigs...everything you guys said I feel or think the same way..I called back again today and can't get the guy to call me back, only his lady that runs the front desk..

I am attached to these cars from my early childhoods days. I had a 1971 back in 1980 I drove back and forth from HighSchool and would drive to the local dragstrip on Thursday Night and enter the gamblers race..Never did win but I did make it down to the final's a few times.

Z 28

If it runs, stops and starts and drives around the block with out over heating,it is worth that money. Check for rust issues, including lower door skins, frame, floors, check gauges, wipers, wiring mods etc, but still that is a good number
Does it still have the spare tire in it ???? lol
Posi still in it ? I think they put alot of 3:73 s in them ?
How does it sound cammed etc ?
remember money is tight now, a good buyer is hard to find, if you want the car do not let it get away.....but it is clearly a buyers market right now so try to cut your best deal
Good Luck
I hope it works out for you !

Rigs I thing I started driving the car in 82 and this pic was in 84 I think..it was a Confederate Flag bandana hanging from the rear view.

Ok I bought the car Friday for $8500 cash. Drove it to the races (as a spectator) Friday night,,about an hour drive round trip and it ran Great,,temp never got above 165 and it was 80 degree's....Put the family in the car and drove them to town( last night, Saturday Night ) another 1.5 hours round trip and had No issues...car is tight, tranny shifts Good etc..

I just want to do a few things...1st I want to find a MSD 6al ignition Box,,,,does anyone on here have one I could buy that I could trust ?

Also give me your thoughts about converting over to a E-85 car..I know the carb is a main change, what about fuel pump and anything other tid-bits ?...this E-85 stuff suppose to increase TQ and Hp not to mention its .50 cheaper average a gallon over 93 octane around here

thanks...I am living back in 1984 right Now and I love it....the 10.5 Nova is put over in a corner. lol

its bee a looooong time since I had a driveable street ( Hot Rod ) and I am loving it !!!!!!!!!

The only thing better about a 7AL2 box is that it has more whistle's and bells to work with so you don't need the add on's

Thats cool Brian! I went through my drag car, pro-street phase and when I got the Firebird it was nice, just to nice to drive the way I wanted. When I slid behind the wheel of the 79 Z28 I have now it was 1987 all over again! My very first 4-speed car was a 79 Camaro RS that I bought in 1987, so the car I have now is just a blast from the past. I have put almost 3500 miles on it this year just cruising around on the weekends. Now if my hair would just grow back!
Have fun buddy and post up some pics!

qtrmile2 10-24-2011 07:47 AM

Nice find Brian. I bought one identical to it in 1981 except it was a 72 Z28. Drove it for awhile on the streets then made it in to a race car.
Nice car. You'll have a lot of fun with it.

Vince beleieve it or Not when i saw it was a 4 speed you was gthe 1st person that came to mind...i said to my self..Ole vince would be proud of me getting a stick car...lol

in 2012 I plan on taking a road trip to see a few people...You are one i am considering Vince,...YOu and the boys planning any open shop parties in the spring ?

I would also like to go see Mark " Mopar 68" he is not far from my in-laws...and of course we been talking about it for years but I am gonna go and stay a few days with Tom ' Topsortsman" up in Maine.

oh and another thing Vince you know anything about this E-85 stuff other then what you can google...I would like some 1st hand experince from someone of how it effected their cars performance etc.... its got to pick it up if it acts anything like alcohol.....I know this 1st hand how alcohol will pick one up....picked me up 3 tenths in my old 67 camarto with the 511ci

also broke a Lifter the TQ increase was so much more...you could really feel the power difference in the seat on the return Road..

take care My friend and always Great to hear from you.......

Juice:

I think you made a good buy there... is she a stock virgin mostly? Interior okay? She looks good. Many of us can remember driving in one of those in our adolescent "daze".... many memories of 1st/2nd & 3rd generation Camaros in high school when they were a dime-a-dozen. I would like one of those some time again.

bjuice 11-04-2011 07:20 PM

yes rigs pretty Much Stock....Bone gonna take a few cell phone pics this weekend and post up it takes decent Pics....lol

Scorpion1110 11-05-2011 05:03 AM

B:

My first car was a 73 Camaro. Copper with saddle interior. If theres a blond with Big Boobs and a bad attitude in the back seat then you bought my old ride.

Good luck and drive the wheels off of it.
