engine oil

i have a blown gas 509 chevy drag car what is a good oil to run.

You'll probably get alot of answers on this one.
There is:
1 Brad Penn (really good with alcohol)
2 Schaeffer (this is what I use)
3 Pennsoil Racing oil
4 Valvoline Racing oil
5 Joe Gibbs Racing oil

All of these are good oils so take your pick.
Just use a good filter!!!

I use brad penn 20-50 and a k&n filter on my good motor

fast75vega 02-04-2011 01:28 PM

I use Brad Penn 20/50.

I run half valvoline and rotella diesel oil with a cup of marvel mystery oil in all of my blown engines. The viscocity varies, but usually a straight weight 50 or 60. All my blown engines have the clearances on the loose side.

X2 BUT ADD A LITTLE VIRGIN OLIVE OIL INTO THE MIX....LOL

VR1 or Shaffer for me

You guys who run Brad Penn and Rotella, know they changed the oil in the last year and its nothing like it used to be with far less zinc and phosphate content now.

Engine oil

I know they had to change any oil that is for consumer use as in Walmart and auto parts stores.

But I talked to the Brad Penn Oil Company directly with in the last 6 months and they state the ZDDP and other antiwear properties we need are unchanged because it is racing oil only.

In any case I am glad I stocked up on Brad 20-50 back when it was $25 a case.

Oil test results show different answers on them not changing it

Royal purple oil is a great oil..
Schaffers and Brad Pen are also great oils.

hammertime is right on that one.the oil that i can buy here locally, i shouldnt run in any of my cars. all my cars are from the 70s back to the 40s and they now dont have any of the additives that they need.there are a lot of good threads on the hamb about this subject

I heard a lot of people say they like Royal Purple, but which one do you use. The regular Royal Purple for $8.99 qt or the XRP racing synthetic which is $15.99 a qt.?

cncmotorsports 02-11-2011 02:37 PM

We use the Regular performance stuff. We sell it for like $6.68 per quart.
We use it in all our race engines, and personal vehicles.

The wear protection we have seen is unbelievable.
