I watched American Graffiti again today... hadn't seen it in years...

I which I lived in that generation. It has come & gone. We cruised in the late 80's, but not the same... now it is totally gone. when that movie was over, I felt like I morned a moment in time we seem to keep searching for. Makes me want a 55 chevy....

I graduated in 1992...I never had an IROC but hate to admit I did have a small mullet. :oops:

I love that movie, got it and it whould have been so cool to be in early 20's during that time, excellent movie :D

Below is a PIC of a 70 Camaro I drove to High school . This particular car was driven in (1981-1982)..The Pic is exactley as the car was driven each day.....350ci with 300hp double hump heads..292 duration 460 lift Alliance camshaft ( from AutoShack)....Tunnel ram pair of 465 Holley carbs...410 gear, vega Tq Converter,Quick silver shifter, (did all the work myself in a dirt floor barn)

i would drive the car to the local strip after school on Thursday Nights and run the gamblers race...it would run 7.60's as you see it ..street tires and thru the Mufflers.

Yes i had a Punk Rock Mullet hair Cut, with Lightening Bolt earring, Members only Jacket and Sabego shoes...Saturday Nights was Parachute Pants and Stacy adam Points.... :wink:

As you can see the Conferderate flag bandana looped around rear view Mirror..i the bottom sticker was a 1982 inspection sticker, the sticker on top was my School sticker parking permit.

Man, I wish I knew why cruising has gone away! Those were no doubt the good 'ole days!

You need to bring your cruiser to Summer avenue here in Memphis, every Friday, Saturday night they still shoot the loop down here.

Growing up out west in New Mexico & graduating in 83, it was all about the so cal VW scene out there.
I had a 68 bug with a SS merged header, weber carb, bosch 009 dizzy, nerf bars, lowered up front, empi wheels, the whole nine yards minus paint of course, primer gray was the norm, who had money for paint in high school?

Central avenue was where it was happening, ol~route 66.

I didnt have an IROC cause they were not out yet!!! But in this lovely picture (mullet and all) you can see my eyes tell the story and I am leaning up against my 79 Camaro RS 305 4speed that I purchased in about 1986, I miss that car and my hairline... :cry:

Dang nice camaro bjuice my mom used to have a 72 Camaro red. 350 4speed and sold it for $600 bucks. Man when she told me that I just about cried. :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:

Hell Yea rockin' the Ratt t-shirt!! LOL Try to tell other kids now days about the band and they just laugh.

I didn't have a car , all I had was a honda 350 full ridgid hardtail frame with springer frontend chopper.
now before you say : HONDA 350 CHOPPER??? You have to remember that a 450 was the largest honda made at the time....oh yeah , like others on here , I had a whole lot more hair too..(me on back)

The 1987 IROC... I lusted that car that year; I was a junior.

I had a 72 Chevelle in primer at the time... had a tunnel ram w/ 2 600 Holleys (it was over carbed & belched black smoke when I got on it) 308 gears in a 10 bolt, 350 (stock) w/ shift kit. The cam was a little too big for the stock torque converter & I occasionally had to put in in neutral so it would not die... what a great time though... I was 17 & I built most of it w/ the help of some friends. No mullet- I had short hair most of the time... but I did sport an AC/DC shirt or two. Back then 72 chevelles were not as cool as they are now... I always wanted a 67. Now I would be fine w/ either one.

Nice and now no one lust after a 87 Iroc-z but sounds like ya had quiet a set up on the 350 as long as it sounds good who cares? LOL I like this thread seeing alot of pictures of everyones younger years.LOL :lol: :lol:

Man just watched the movie really really liked it.

Well if your town is like it is here the police don't allow you to cruise around if you pass the same location within a certian amount of time you rest assure if caught you will get a ticket :!: :!:

Yea I have always heard that you can't out run a radio!!

When video games and vcr movies started along with the bullschit emision testing kids stopped working on cars. back in the 80's when they started testing here I use to have to back the timing out and lean the crap out of the idle screws to get my hopped up junk to pass, drive around the corner and put everything back.

I lived in that era, owned every one of those vehicles except a 32 rodster or coupe, first car 1950 ford with a flathead caddy engine, owed 3 different 49 to 51 fords 2 with caddy engines, 55 and 56 chevys with 301's and duel quads 58 with 348 with tripower, 39 LaSalle coupe 37 stude coupe 48 merc. conv. I'd be rich if i still owned those cars, Elvis side burns and racing on edens expressway north of Chgo, racing at Oswego, Greatlakes, US 30, and Rockford drayway, those were the days. I'd give everyhing i have to turn back the clock.

AH yes i remember back in day,I turned 16 in 1972,things were different "back in the day".Had a blast,lucky i made it out alive and turned out ok. !!!!

Zip- this is what I was thinking when I made the post... you guys lived in the last good generation of our country. American Graffiti captured a night in 1962... what seemed like perfection. A moment in time that we will never see again. I was not even a sperm-cell then. I wish I was in that generation though. Best part of the movie was in the early morning when they raced... playing that "Green Onions" tune... pipes un-corked on the deuce, lined up w/ the 55 & chrome-reverse wheels... two lanes & a kid w/ a flash light. No AIDS, No Obama, No "Smart Cars", no emissions, no damn ECU's.... cell phones... AND NO SNOTTY DMV WORKERS THAT TELL ME I NEED TO GIVE THEM 5 PIECES OF PROOF TO RE-NEW MY LICENSE!! my kids will grow up thinking that texting is to replace talking, cars are for traveling & cruising is for COP's, a "Hot Rod" is a Honda & "Boss" is a supervisor... and "bitchin" is only a thing that parents do to them!!! those days are gone my brotheren. So true!!! I have watched that movie everyday since I first commented on this thread man it looked like fun then and know days fun is sitting at home all week watching MTV or playing video games to kids now. What has the world gone to? If you were born in that generation or close to it you are lucky and should cherish every memory because with the world like it is today it's down hill from now on. IMO
