lifetime Chevy man switches to a Ford (for now)!

Well all my life I have owned Bowtie hotrods, 3 1968 Camaros, 85 Camaro, 84 Camaro drag car, 1979 Camaro, etc...
I just could not pass up the deal on this one, 2 owner 91 Mustang LX, 33000 original miles, guy I got it from bought it in 95 and only took it to the track and car shows, parked in in 2002, pulled it back out in 2006 and went nuts, Ford Motorsports 460 Cobra Jet crate motor, QA1 tubular crossmember and front suspension, TCI Street Fighter C6 tranny and stall, all South Sise rear suspension, Moser 8.8 rear axle and on and on and on...
He drove the car maybe 50 miles when he finished it then parked it again in 07. I bought it with no battery and covered with dust. Put in battery, filled with fuel and it fired right up! When I asked why he was getting rid of it he says "he just got bored with the car"!
Did I mention the motor has 550 horsepower and 535 foot lbs of torque!Tell me, would you get bored with that :?:

looks Nice..what will it Run on the radials ?

Harbone 09-29-2009 03:08 PM

Brian,
never made it to the track yet, last runs are this weekend (welcome to Illinois!) and I have family plans. I am gonna buy some slicks for it this winter and try to get to a test & tune in early spring. Until then its a scary ride on the side roads, I can say I have never driven a street car with that much punch!

TopspeedLowet 09-29-2009 03:29 PM

Good buy

With radials and that 100" wheel base (or something close to that) you may need to invest in one of those steering knobs so you can keep up counter steering during a good run!
One mans pain can be another mans pleasure..........
Looks very nice. I am sure you will have fun.
Bruce

BEAST477 09-29-2009 04:18 PM

Hey Chris, what track is local to you? I have some friends ( I know hard to believe ) that run at Byron.

TheYellaBrick 09-29-2009 04:27 PM

NICE SCORE 'Bone !!
The power to weight ratio is outright SCARY DUDE !! It 's for sure a Halloweeny kinda ride :D :D :D

DirkaDirka 09-29-2009 07:40 PM

Hey maybe once I get mine up and move back East we could hook up at the track? Cool ride. Love it.

MEMRACING62 09-29-2009 07:45 PM

I lived iin KY for a couple years and LOVED it. I miss it back there. Tired of seeing sand. I wanna see more grass.

MEMRACING62 09-29-2009 07:55 PM

yea, after being up to your butt in sand I guess I would welcome the change ,kentucky is beautiful state. Ive been stuck here in il and dealing the crap of working the south side of chicago I cant wait to get the he!! out of here too.

DirkaDirka 09-29-2009 08:08 PM

Yeah we are kinda looking for property in TN--KY now. The only thing that kinda sucks but kinda not is that we need at least 30 acres due to us having horses.

bowtie4542001 09-30-2009 12:15 AM

Hey Chris,
The Stang looks really nice. Let us know what she does at the track.

Chris

Harbone 09-30-2009 04:18 AM

Beast,
I have been to Byron but never ran there, I try to get to Midstate down in Havana at least a couple of times a year.

cepx111 09-30-2009 10:25 PM

That is a nice ride Chris.

I recommend the biggest, stickest slick you can get under the fenderwell, dont even mess around with a drag radial - them 460's are scary fast in a mustang, be careful.

What is the gearing and converter stall?

Cp

Harbone 10-01-2009 05:31 AM

Its has 4:30 gears on a spool and a TCI 3500 stall. I put a set of BFG Drag Radials on it just for the street but plan on buying a spare set of rims with some good drag slicks over the winter so I can take it to the track in the spring.

That sucker ought to pull the bigend like nobodies business with that gearing, 1/4 or 1/8 mile track?

Harbone 10-02-2009 04:22 AM

Havana is a 1/8th mile track, it doesnt have a transbrake so I will be foot braking the car. I can't wait till spring!

cepx111 10-02-2009 10:23 PM

Hell I cant wait till this weekend....lol

Living in the deep south has it's privilages, we race round here till late November, then fire things back in early march, you better have your ducks in a row in the off season, not much downtime.

That is a good looking mustang with a stout motor Chris, you should be proud even if your a die hard chevy man, drive it like you stole it I say.

Keep us updated,

Cp

those stangs work very well in that class from what i have seen down here.

bluegrassjh 10-05-2009 09:44 AM

I've said it before...I'll say it again. That Stang is SICK! I'd love to put some miles on it for you. I'm just sayin...I wouldn't do it for just anybody, but I'd help you out.

NOW THATS FUNNY!!!!!!!!!
You know the emblem on my Mustang grille is missing...hmmmm...

bluegrassjh 10-08-2009 10:55 AM

Steeda makes a direct replacement emblem for the Foxbody. Thats what I've got planned. You can get em from Jegs.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...emblem_550.jpg

DirkaDirka 10-08-2009 11:52 AM

What I am prolly going to do with my Ford emblem on the front is fill it in and then have someone airbrush one on or airbrush something else in that spot.

Scooterz 10-12-2009 02:11 PM

Harb,

I like your ride!! Should be a blast to drive....

Harbone 10-14-2009 02:08 PM

You know it aint nice to try to degrade a Ford by refering it as a Mopar.

Harbone 10-14-2009 03:41 PM

I love them all but just want to get back into some vintage iron, the car is probably one of the nicest/nastiest I have ever owned, just want to get back into something that was made before I graduated from high school. I actually was looking at a 64 Falcon back half car yesterday that was in a local trading paper, waiting for the guy to call me back...

The sad thing I would have prolly asked him bou tit if I was in this other deal already. Well that is depending on how much he wanted for it.

BEAST477 10-14-2009 04:23 PM

'Bone !! Say it ain't so, BRO

Scooterz 10-14-2009 06:33 PM

Harb,

A Gasser... that is what would be fun you to do next. The ol' 4spd tunnel ram, fenderwell headers, like a 60's tribute on a 56 Chev or something... big long ladder bars, w/a knarley high rake/straight axel... loud, fast, obnoxious, dangerous, etc... something that takes up all four lanes to going through the gears... MAN I WANT A GASSER SO BAD!!!!! I would DUMP the pro-street for one in heartbeat. I got off track... what were we talking about????
