14mm pulleys are cheaper as they are less used now. Most people have moved over to 8mm for a greater selection of ratios, and the newest Pro-Mod and Top Fuel stuff is 11mm, which is the best blend of ratios and strength. As for amount of whine... meh... I've had both, and they are both pretty close in volume. How tight you run the belt has a bigger impact on whine than anything. The guys with the most whine (for street driven) usually have belts you can play like a guitar string. Doing that is really dangerous because it pre-loads the crank snout pretty heavily. The snout will give before that belt will. If you want to reduce the amount of whine, you can drill 1/16" holes into the tooth valley on the pulley. It gives the air more places to escape and minimizes the whine sound. |
Big time different combos... but...
8mm pulleys, 2" wide belt - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LW-9NV0VDMQ 14mm pulleys, 3" wide belt - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Gm2d0s409U I'd say the 8mm is more of a whistle, where the 14mm is more of a scream. |
dude, is that wall still there at gateway, brake a axle and head frist in the wall
|
I am courious,
What type of blower do you have? |
The wall is long gone. That was when Gateway ran North to South. When they changed the facilities, it now runs South to North.
As for blower... The 8mm belt was a B&M Powercharger 250. Was my first blower back in 1992. The 14mm belt in that video was a Mooneyham 10-71 (18 strips), which has since been replaced by an SSI 14-71 B-Rotor with 30 strips. |

My guess is that if you had more cheese, you will get more whine.
Sorry, couldn't help it, haha. |

You are correct on both, but it sure sounds cool and turns many heads 8) I've found the sweet spot with the belt so it won't damage anything.
