have serviced them but never built one for racing . chevy hi performance magazine does a lot of articles on them . (its our future engine of choice!) 8)

ARUSSELL 07-16-2009 02:51 PM

We are getting a tom of LS orders, it is becoming a hit. I dont see why, a SBC and BBC fave 40 years on them

Only when they start making 565 ci LS engines will it be my engine of choice.

newjack42 07-16-2009 03:50 PM

hmm new part to the forum for ls motors ... lets take a head count how many have ls's on here just wondering :?:

suicidebomb 07-16-2009 06:21 PM

I had one in a 98 Z/28, that car had the best sounding stereo, of any automobile I've ever heard. It was the only thing on the car that worked on a regular basis.

My Dually says LS on the cab...that's about as close as I can get.

MEMRACING62 07-16-2009 06:56 PM

if your chevy truck is 1999 and up v8, its an ls

sds10racer 07-16-2009 08:09 PM

nice addition to the site. super chevy for sept. has an article in it about ls engines. 400cid, twin 88 turbos and 2,050 hp at 7,140rpm and 25lbs of boost. GMPP put it in a full frame 96 impala ss built just for this engine. from the front vue of the car, looks pretty wicked with skinnys up front and what looks like fairly wide tires out back.

It's a 2000 1 ton crew cab 4 wheel drive.

P.S, corvette motor

MEMRACING62 07-16-2009 08:45 PM

IF I REMEMBER RITE, THE ONE TONS KEPT THE 5.7 & 7.4 TILL THE MODEL CHANGE IN 2002 & CAB & CHASSIS IN 2003. YUP THE LS IS THE CORVETTE DESIGN. THE EARLY LS MADE PISTON SLAP NOISE WHEN COLD BUT HAVE SEEN THEM WITH 200,000 ONE THEM WITH NO PROBLEMS

CamBirdRacing 07-17-2009 03:21 AM

Wife bought a 98 Camaro new in 99. Has the LS1 in it. 160,000 miles and has been in the shop only once. Hope I didn't speak to soon. It's totally bone stock, unmolested. It is a Z28, with NO p/w,p/locks, cruise-nothing but T-Tops and A/C.

ARUSSELL 07-17-2009 08:17 AM

The LS is the newest geroration SBC, comes stock with either a 15 deg head or the LS7 has a 13 deg head.

Tod74 07-17-2009 09:27 AM

Ok, I feel like a dummy. the LS1, etc... as in the camaro/vette. I was thinking about some new LS/Hybird/Vortech/decepti-con/flux capacitor type style new gvt mtrs engine... but this is the ol' regular LS.

With all the xtra traction the dual rear wheels would offer with 4 cheater slicks back there, I'm afraid it might flip over backwards from all that horsepower.

suicidebomb 07-17-2009 02:06 PM

Wheelie-bars??

MEMRACING62 07-17-2009 04:01 PM

YUP! WITH ALL THE POWER THIS TRUCK IS GONNA HAVE ITS GONNA NEED A SET OF THOSE SPECIAL JOHN FORCE WHEELE BARS THAT ARE NASCAR APPROVED!!

Tod74 07-17-2009 04:56 PM

How to build a 550 horse motor

350 MUST BE A 4 BOLT MAIN out of a corvette... bored .060 over ( doesn't have to actually be bored just say it has been...and always .060 never .030)
Aluminum "High Rise" Intake
750 "DUAL LINE" HOLLEY (this can be ANY carb that says Holley on it)
2.02 Double Hump heads( do not need 2.02 valves even 1.94 DH heads automatically have 2.02 valves )
3/4 cam or Crane fireball 2 cam
chrome valve covers

Turn the idle speed screw down so the engine idles at 175 rpm

whitey70ss 07-17-2009 05:32 PM

WHAT ABOUT THAT REALLY COOL TRI ANGULAR FOAM AIR CLEAN TOD??IT ADDS 25 HP!!!

vegaswheelsup 07-17-2009 08:19 PM

We are getting old, the LS is the new GM small block. How many old GM 350 blocks are left? The GM 454 blocks are gold around here. The cost of aftermarket blocks will make the LS more popular before it is over we will all probably run a LS motor at some point. Think in the 70's electronic ignition and disc brakes, 80's fuel injection that would never last. Change scares people, but is sometimes for the best. Just my 2 cents!

outlaw256 07-18-2009 06:23 AM

chevynovaman 07-20-2009 07:30 PM

I HAVE A 2003 LS1 IN MY 57 CHEVY AND LOVE IT... THESE LS ENGINES ARE BULLET PROOF COMPARED TO THE OLD SCHOOL STUFF... A GUY IN TOWN HAS ONE IN A S10 WITH A BIGGER CAM AND SPRINGS,, RUNS 10.80 AND DRIVES IT 120 MILES ONE WAY TO THE TRACK AND GETS 20 MILES TO THE GALLON... THIS IS WITH A 900.00 JUNKYARD MOTOR
A STOCK STYLE NODULAR LS CRANK WILL HANDLE 600 HP
STOCK RODS WILL HANDLE 550 HP
THE BLOCKS ARE 6 BOLT MAINS AND WILL HANDLE 700+ HP
THE HEADS STOCK HAVE HUGE INTAKE PORTS AND BREATH WELL..
RIGHT NOW YOU CAN BUY THEM IN ANY JUNKYARD FROM ROLLOVERS FROM 300.00 TO 1200.00 DEPENDING ON MILEAGE... I HAVE BEEN RUNNING OLD SCHOOL MOTORS SINCE 1990 AND THESE LS ENGINES PRODUCE WAY MORE HORSEPOWER....OPINION

Tod74 07-20-2009 07:32 PM

What cars came with them? If you know nothing about them(like me) what does one look for if looking for one in a junkyard?

WE GET OUR LS ENGINES FROM THE 2000 AND UP CHEVY TRUCKS... THEY MAKE A 4.8 283 A 5.3 327 AND A 6.0 .... MY NOVA DRAG CAR IS STILL OLD SCHOOL WITH A 496 BUILT AND THESE LS ENGINES STILL KICK MY ASS,,, PISSES ME OFF.......IF YOU GO TO MUSCLERODS.COM THESE ARE THE LS CONVERSION SPECIALIST.. GO TO CUSTOMERS CARS AND YOU WILL SEE A RED AND WHITE 57 CHEVY SUNLIGHT PICURE,, THATS MY CAR NEXT TO PAUL WALKERS NOVA.....

pddye 07-21-2009 11:55 AM

I really like my ls motors. I've got a little new and a little old in my 2000 Trans am. Ls1 motor and a trans braked turbo 400/12bolt driveline. I'm kinda kicking myself I didn't step up the the 4l80e trans but the th400 is just so much more cost effective.
