suspension anf frame ideas for my maverick
i gotta 77 ford maverick and im gona be putting a 350 in it  . im thinking of putting a mustang II front end on it with coil overs and tubular a arms and a 4 link in the back. would it be a hard fit and should i make a frame for it or jus get the subframe connectors????

How much fabrication skill you have and what type of equipment you have access to , along with your wallet, would be the deciding factor in that...in my opinion just use the frame conectors. BUT I think I read in another thread that your father has an altered, so something tells me you have access to some guys with some experience at this .

yea my dad has a few friends that are good with chassis and he has some skill with it to. but i jus gota do the front end cuz the shitty ass shock towers are in the way of me putting a sbc in there

DONT WANT TO BASH THE GUY BUILDING THE CAR , ITS JUST GOING TO NEED A LOT TO STRENGHTEN THAT THING UP . I HAD A MAVERICK ,TOWERS COLAPSED INTO THE ENGINE, THAT WAS WITH A 200 INLINE SIX. A FOX BODY MUSTANG WOULD BE ALOT EASIER TO WORK WITH. JMO
|
yea i know its good to see something out there that there aint to many of but im gona strengthen up a bit, i gota get rid of the shock towers anyways to fit that sbc in there

DID YA SEE ADD# 1550000. ?

WHY A SBC? A LIGHT MAVERICK/ GOOD CAGE/ DEEP GEARS /HIGH REVING SBF/ AND YOU WOULD BE VERY FAST
AND THE SHOCK TOWERS CLEAR I THINK HEIDTS MAKES A KIT FOR THIS -YOU MIGHT CHECK LIVELY |
yea but fords are to expensive to make fast and idk chevy maverick just has a ring to it dont u think hahaha :D :D
|
Ford tough with chevy stuff 8)
|
haha thats what im saying 8)

Justin I'd stick with the SBF, be alot easier than doing all that work.
Parts are cheap, blocks are plentyful, and they run as good as any chevy with the right combination of parts. When I first started getting into dragracing my buddy had a white 70 something maverick. I came and watched him run ever weekend till I got my 81 z28 camaro running. It had a bored over 302, 12.5 to 1's - healthy bump stick, torker 2 intake, Holley 750dp, C4 trans, 8inch rearend W/456 gears, 9 inch slicks, sub-frame connectors and slapper bars, nothing fancy just a well put together package. It ran high 11's 1/4 and 7.20's 1/8 When I finally got my car finished, it was running almost identical times. After the races were over, the track owner would let us grudge race, and just about every weekend we did just that. We ran so close it was always down to who cut the better light. Loser leaves town - Ford verses Chevy, you could see the dollars flying at the starting line, betting on who was gonna win, man thoses were the days! Cp |
yea but i need to do alot of work to the suspension anyways and wth the shock towers gone it be a peice of cake to drop a sbc and a glide or a th350. and idk ive never heard of a chevy in a maverick so id think it would be purty sweet

Putting another engine isn't that hard in a Maverick or a Mustang. The problem is the spring towers. But they can be eliminated by putting a crossmember in the car. Then any small block will fit pretty easy. Here's the kit you need to remove the spring towers.

NOT A BAD PRICE FOR EVERYTHING THAT COMES WITH IT
|
I had one in a 70 Mach I. Made it alot easier to put a bbf in. Even had room to change plugs. I have a pic of it on my profile.
|
yea my dad already told me that ima have to put a mustang II front end. prolly around the same size as a chevy IIs
