1983 was a great year:

Twisted sister, Ford Fairmonts, Lee Iacoca & the "K" cars, Michael Jackson, parachoote pants, NO Corvette that year, good Mullets...

Sure there were....but they were 1984 Corvettes.

I never knew they didn't have an 83 vette so I googled it....It says

They started selling 84 Corvettes in like February or March of 83. :?

I've always wanted a 1983 to much to list. These are rare and worth whatever.

TheYellaBrick 05-12-2009 04:44 PM

LOL, you guys are relentless!!
Dave

Harbone 05-13-2009 11:55 AM

well maybe it was the 83 Vette he was trying to sell. They broke down so much that you had to drag them from shop to shop!

FullTimeRacing 05-13-2009 12:15 PM

I had read that they made a hand full of 83 vette's (5 or 8)then crushed all but 1 or 2.

Call your autoparts guy and try too order parts for them ,they will look for ever scratching there heads.

Tod74 05-13-2009 02:21 PM

They made 47 83 Corvettes...the one in Bowling Greene is the only one known to still exist. They started selling 1984 Vettes in February of 83.

markadams 05-13-2009 03:03 PM

I never knew they built ANY 83 vettes. I thought they spent the whole year tooling up for the 84's. Did they look like the 82's or 84's?

I googled it after it was mentioned in this thread....I never knew they DIDN'T have 83 Corvettes.

1983 Corvette

Officially, There were no 1983 Corvettes. There were forty seven 1983 Corvettes made but none were ever sold. The National Corvette Museum has the only 1983 known at this time. The new Corvette plant in Bowling Green, KY closed in October of 1982 to begin retooling for the 1984 Corvette. Production began in January of 1983 and the press received their first view of the 1984 Corvette in January of 1983. In February, the first production 1984 Corvettes were sold to the public. In March of 1983, the 1984 Corvette officially went on sale in the United States, except for California and a month later, in April, the 1984 Corvette went on sale in California. By October of 1983, the plant was in full speed production.

I did have an opertunity to drive a 84' Vette... had the "4+4" trans I think?? it was... was... like diving a not so really fast car as long as a station wagon that holds 2 people. I scraped the cowling on a curb I remember... long nose & I did not judge it right.

Now a 1983 Drag Car.... now we are talkin'. "1983" was the penicle of meritocracy (dont know if that is spelled right) MARGINAL not so good cars... & trucks for that matter. Let's name a few: K cars, Ford Fairmonts, Crysler Cordoba, my girl friend (blonde) had a 1983 Toyota Tercel which was a triangle with 4 wheels, Was the GRANADA gone by 83??? We had the Buick front wheel drive vechiles with crappy V6 bombs, Can't forget the Omni, "Rampage" & Mirada... talk about some real barn-stormers. Good times 1983... good times.

markadams 05-13-2009 05:13 PM

Very funny stuff guys! There was some real crap built then. Wasn't the renault, Motor Trends car of the year in 83? Not sure, may have the years worng. I wish I knew where the other 46 corvettes went.

I don't remember, but I have a pic of it somewhere. I think it was the newer one.

mopar1968 05-14-2009 07:10 AM

Tod74 05-22-2009 09:54 PM

Chevettes were made up until 87...they were ugly as hell but you couldn't tear them up.very durable and economical car.

Man that guy hasn't been back on here to let us know if it sold or he still has it. I wonder if he would be interested in a trade? I know trade value will be higher. But then again how much can an '83 drag car with too much to list be worth. I have a hay burnin' quarter horse i'd like to be rid of.LOL

macksstreetrod 05-26-2009 07:21 AM

HOW MUCH FOR THE HORSE???? WHAT IS THE MILAGE? I HAVE A DOG THAT THINKS HES A CAT...INTERESTED IN A TRADE???
