Engine Horsepower??

I've been wondering for a while what horsepower my engine was putting out heres the specs..... 350 .060 over flat top pistons,Isky cam 510 lift 292 duration, edelbrock rpm heads, edelbrock intake, edelbrock 600cfm carb. Also its in a 70 chevelle with a m-20 muncie and 3.73 12 bolt any Idea on the 1/4 ET??

im guessin tops 400 horse maybe 415 but in that car with those gears you will prolly run anywhere frm a mid 13 to a high 12 JMO

radicalz 04-14-2009 08:08 PM

that cam is a little small on the lift, but maybe it's me used to seeing .700 lift cams....hp maybe 350-360...good street engine tho....maybe et's hi 13's that chevelle pretty big car....good street car

I've been reading the edelbrock site and they say with a 9.5-1 350sbc they are gettin 420hp with a .488/510 lift---234/244 duration cam?? I dont know if that changes much??

dont get me wrong here....i just think that cam, carb, and your compression limit you on the flow those heads and intake can flow....350,360, even 400 hp is nothing to sneeze at....it is not going to run 9's sorry....but if you go to a larger hyd cam, maybe even a solid or hyd roller cam where the heads dcan breath and top it off with a 700 dbl pumper and bump the compression to 9.5 or even 10:1 might even 500+ out of it where it will run in the 10's....so it is up to you how fast you want to go....we are here to help if neccessary.....

get that carb and intake and this cam....
http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx?id=1782&gid=245

may have to bump up the compression a little but if you want to play with NOS this is the cam....

Tod74 04-20-2009 10:49 PM

The way it sits now... LOW TO MID 13'S

JMO

whitey70ss 04-24-2009 05:02 PM

I picked up the 750 dp and I 'm getting a edelbrock victor jr intake tommorrow. I dont plan on playing with NOS what cam would you recomend for the nastiest possible sbc with these specs .60 over around 10.2-1 comp. edelbrock perf. rpm heads and the carb and intake I said. This car will be driven on the street but doesent need manners ( I barely have any myself) I just wanna go fast

mytmouz 04-24-2009 05:13 PM

I had a similar spec motor back in the day in a 67 'bu with a 4 speed. I had a 295/.555 flat tappet on 108 centers. I really liked that combo...

whitey70ss 04-24-2009 05:22 PM

Anyone else have any experience with that lunati cam that radicalz recomended me??

cepx111 04-24-2009 09:45 PM

I ran a lunati bracket master cam in one of my BBC's (396) it was ok, nothing to brag about, ended up swapped it out for a CC after it rolled a few lobes.
I ran a simlar set-up as you, I ran a comp cams 305 magnum in my 358 SBC, it ran like a scaled ape.
IMO, You need more compression to wake your combo up though.

how much compression will I need to wake it up?? I'm kinda on a limited budget I was hoping to just get away with the carb, intake and cam.

Going up to at least 12.5 is optimum, but anything over 11 to 1 and you'll be buying racing fuel so keep that in mind.
Keep your current cam in there and just upgrade to a good single plane (vic jr) and a bigger carb, something like around A 750 CFM double pumper will be a night and day difference, then you can save up for bigger pistons later on.

I had a 305 magnum in my 400 sb....525 lift. That thing pulled really hard above 4000. Swapped it for the 292 with .507 lift and it liked it much better...was a heavy car.

whitey70ss 04-28-2009 03:00 PM

you think the carb and intake swap is going to wake it up that much??
