582 Combo's
Hey guys, just dropped my motor off at the shop to get Freshen up. Was thinking of maybe trying to get some upgrades done to it (more power upgrades) but was up in the air what to do to it Here is what it is
582 4.375x4.600 BMF 385 Heads fully Cnc'd by BMF Erson "asshole grind" Cam # 420-116 Int-808 Ext-765 Duration 314/324 @50 284/298 112 L/C Compression is 14.2:1 Sniper Intake Ported Terminator will be going into a dragster I'd like to gain 30-50hp any thoughts on maybe a cam swap or ?? thanks |
David, would you happen to have the flow numbers for your heads?
Thanks, George |
I wish I did. But do not, might not be a bad thing to have done when they are off the motor.
I talked with Curtis he felt he could gain some, but sounds like he is pretty busy for awhile. |
whats it making now (hp/Tq) ?
Brian |
960hp without vacuum pump, figured 970-975 with it. The TQ slips my mind at the moment and I am not with the dyno sheet
It runs very strong but with added weight (suspension) to my car I am hoping to gain a little back with the motor. |

i see you getting 30/40 more with some trick head work, maybe get another opinion on your new head work/cam combo..
reason i say this is that Scott Duggins of PAR Racing Engines down here in S.C. is getting a little over 1,000 hp on his 565ci with the new oval port heads. but make no mistake your 582ci is making some power on its own now,. its killing my little raggy 511...lol :D Brian |

Decisions, decisions. George |
This is 2nd time I've done the switch first time I lost .10 with weight and suspension both. I have a few other things to get it faster, changing from the 34.5's back to the 33.5 hoosiers .04 there, conv is stupid loose because the car wouldnt go straight/hook at any track. 6800 stall falls back to 6200 and sits there for .50-52 seconds after shift, I have a 6200 TSI 9" spragless to put in it. It went 4.67@147 in 3200ft of air and 91 degrees. Could be the most tire shaking/spinning car I've ever drove, hope the suspensions take care of this issue which I am sure it will. I'd like to settle it back in around 4.75@145

Decisions, decisions. George my cousin purchased the PAR 565 and ran it in a 3000lb 67 nova with driver and ran consistant 5.60's with a low et of 5.58..on gas and all motor. ladder bar ,small tire car.. if somehting happend to my 511 i hope it happens early next year cause i will go with a 565 shortblock and use my conventional heads..on alcohol of course..lol So yes i say 565ci with conventional heads for sure ! Brian |
The only way i could get rid of tire shake with the new car is the 34.5 tires . Get a Hughes 9" softhit conv. It hooks consistantly and picked me up 4 hundreds over the loose GM-95

Brian the 565's run good, but almost every 582 around here out runs the 565's by a good tenth. I've seen APD put a 1950lb american with, oval port bb3x's go 7.21 . Davis I think the 4 link will help this I have a set of 34.5's just in case not. Its hard to make a 225" Car made for a small block hook on a hot track with the big block. It sure was ill to drive. |

The Coan 6800 is a softhit also, I have a few conv's sitting on the shelf to try good thing for early spring testing :D |
Well the one thing you didn't mention was how much you are willing to spend. And with out all the specs of the engine it is hard to tell.
You could always go with a bigger stoke. 4.500" will give you 598ci and a 4.750" will give you 632ci. And we all know that more CI will get you what you want, more power and torque. just my 2¢ worth gyrogearloose |
