I think we need to lighten up a little, don't you? If you can't have some fun on here then what's the point? Especially when the symptoms and problem descriptions don't go hand in hand.

I caught it... :D I try to have fun but I got warned for being a wise guy so I toned it down. But I was warned because it was the scammer forum I made a couple wise cracks in and a mod thought maybe those who were scammed would not appreciate it...and He was probably right so I deleted them. Didn't mean to cause problems.

No worries, sounds like you could have multiple issues from your most recent description. Really shouldn't be that difficult to correct, it's just difficult to give advice about how to repair thses kinds of issues, especially if there are some real mechanical issues that need correcting before you can move on to the next problem.

I can tell you that the distributor will absolutely not cause the lifters to seize. Not sure what modifications you've made other than cam. But if you put a performance cam with any decent amount of lift in your BBC, do not run the stock valve spring or you will flatten the cam lobes. Be sure the top end is oiling properly. What type of cam, lifters, and Valve springs did you use?

If that thing is a hydraulic cam just preload the lifters with the engine off. Some may disagree but oh well.... I always did it that way and no problems. Just tighten the nut while spinning/ wiggling the pushrod between your fingers until the lash is gone then go a half turn. You will get many different opinions on how far to go...some say quarter..some say half turn...some 3/4 etc. I have even seen a book that said 1 full turn.( too much I think) You just need to center the plunger in the lifter.

No way would I put up with the mess of oil spraying everywhere trying to run the valves with the valve cover off.

JMO... take it for what it's worth.

ditto what Tod74 said. i've had good luck doing exactly as he says. even with it idling its not too bad but gets messy if revved up..
