Am I seeing things or is the bearing still in the rod. If so it doesn't look spun, which is usually the case when a rod lets go.

Curtis your correct .. not sure what these guys are seeing. ALL bearings look like brand new still. This was rod failure plain and simple.

There is a lot of BIG engine shops who bypass Oliver and suggest Callies Compstar, Eagle, Ohio Crankshaft just because the terrible luck with Oliver stuff. Brian the guy that suggested it sold you that carb :D
He builds motors for a lot of big hitters in the bracket world and has good luck without Eagle. To Each's Own I guess ... but I will contiune to not suggest Oliver....

You say you have 6 good rods,is that rod blue because it was next to one that failed? in your other post you said one let go of the bearing.Rods that are that discolored will fail no matter what brand.Bill

i didn't make a comment on the bluing of the rod or bearing theory..cause plain and simple i am not qualified enough to make that statement without just Blowing smoke..but my choice would be oliver over Eagle if i had the choice ..but again its a choice..
I do know that majority of the high Horsepower Engines DO NOT run Eagle over other rods for whatever reason they may have ( i remain neutral here)

To Clarify what i mean by High Horsepower is classes such as Pro-Mod,10.5 Outlaw,Pro-Stock,Big-Dog Class,Edlebrock Prostreet class...

i personally think eagle rods,crank etc..is a perfect match for the lower hp 800 to 850 hp ( under)..Eagle has provided a decent product for the round robin guys at an afforable price......but when you step up..you gotta step up the parts as well..IMO..

For the record..i have a set of Eagle Rods in my 511ci...it makes the above hp i mention..or close to it...high 5 second car..

Now my 632 1400 hp ( on nos) motor has Crower Titanium Rods...different animal....i would not have thought of going eagle rod on this deal...again opinion based on some observation.

as i said in another post its all made of metal,can and will break at any given time..

I love my APD Alcohol...it was a good sale all the way around...but if i wanted Rods i would go with Crower.....thats my take. :D

That rods IS NOT blue or cracked !! Has to be lighting in the picture. I have sense changed motor shops because of the time period to get a motor done by that shop they just have to many customers. www.apdracing.com

I've used them all we all use what works for us .. I am simply stating that was a rod failure and it does happen to every brand out there ..
Mine picture must be bad lighting because its not blue or cracked at all. The bearings look like brand new. It something that happens and does to everyone at some point in time.

how many oliver rods have been broken ?
possible it was just a bad rod?

i was told that eagle rods are good upto 1400 horse as long as you change the bolts- anyone know about this???

also what do you guys think about carrillo rods,and the new k1 rods by carrillo????

This is one of them questiosn that will get a lot of answers from what everyone has had good and bad luck with.

Eagle .. I use them and have with no failure at all. I know a lot of motor shops that use nothing but eagle with the L19 rod bolts with 1200-1300hp motors and have did so for years. Manley makes a good rod also ... there is several good choices to this question, to eachs own.

What else was ruined when that rod broke? ( besides your under shorts)

just curious. I have never had an engine "explode" like that....especially right behind my head( dragster I assume) Makes me wonder what the old timers were smoking before they climbed in those old slingshot dragsters with the blower motor in front of em :shock: .......not me...no way.

they were smoking pure NITRO fumes !...LOL
