Diesel trucks

I have a 6 liter in an excursion and a 7.3 in a crew cab dually. The 6 liter will run circles around the 7.3 and tows great It also runs 9.50s at the drag strip in the 1/8th. The only mod is a super chip program. I have not had any problem with my 6.0. I have 145,000 thousand miles on it with over 100,000 of them being with the program installed. It gets roughly 16 to 17 miles to the gallon. With my two trucks I have better preformance and fuel economy with the 6.0 There is a posted viedo of my excursion out running a 03 mustang at www.what speedlimit.com go to forums them gallery and look for fun at piedmont. My opinion you can get good or bad from either brand.

Stay away from them new 6.7 .......fuel systems and injectors are big problems (tips and pumps)...and thats from the horses mouth (Dodge Dealers)

FORDS SUCK. (and i use to be a die hard ford fan) i have more than 50 F250's, F350's, F450's, F550's, and even some F650's(talking about a rough ridding, weak pcs of s*^$) in my fleet and yet to get one past 50,000 miles without major problems. If we did not have a contract with ford for almost 20 years we would not buy anymore! they are so bad we bought some v10's until ford gets a diesel that will last.
I own a duramax and love it. plenty of power and it's quiet! (for a diesel)

tcarda 05-18-2008 06:15 PM

I have a 2003 Duramax and have had no issues with it except a bad battery when I bought it new. My dad has two 97 Ford F350 with manual transmissions and he has a new 2008 with the new 6.4. The two 97's both have over 200,000 miles on them and get 3 mpg better than the 2008. The 2008 has plenty of power, but only gets 9-10 mpg! Open the hood on one of those and the might be down there somewhere.....but you can't see it. :(

:D Rabbit,I think me and you could get along :D

Let’s be honest. all trucks and cars have good and bad points. It really boils down to personal preference, but ford has some serious issues in the last 4 or 5 years with diesels. the old 7.3 was the last good motor, which was made until early 2003. It had some issues as well. Mostly injector (which will cost about 2,000 to replace) and camshaft sensor problems. NEVER REPLACE 1 INJECTOR. At least do all 4 on a side. But it’s always better to replace all 8 at the same time.
If you’re dead set on a ford do yourself a favor and give the new 6.4 (2008) some time to prove itself. In the meantime, I bought a chevy and will probably never own a ford again.
Fyi. My family owned a ford dealership for almost 40 years. I’m the ONLY person in my family drives any GM product. Yea I catch hell for it, but I’m proud to be the black sheep of the family!! (good song by saliva too!)
Dodge, i'm not sure about. NOBODY drives them around here. Must be a reason. Someone once told me never buy something that gives you directions on the tailgate. DODGE. definition: Move quickly to avoid something :!: :!:  Not sure about that but... kidding but i do know they are LOUD and don't have the resale value of a Ford or Chevy.

mopar1968 05-23-2008 07:11 PM

I am a diesel tech at a dodge dealer, and believe me when i say, we haven't had any problem with injectors, or pumps, from 2003 and up cummins doesn't have a injection pump, has a high pressure pump, like i have stated before only problem we have seen with cummins is small computer updates. :) :) Dodge Doesn't have resale value :?: You might want to recheck on that one :!: Fords are so bad here they are burning them collecting, and then buying dodges.

  lol. just being honest about resale value. and fords will tend to be about $400-$700 per year better than chevy depending on options. ALL diesel truck resale values are way down and will be for a while. $4.58 today
no doubt the cummins was the best thing dodge ever did!! i think it really does come down to personal preference. all are good but the cummins is just so da** loud! and i just like interior of chevy better. i'm just so sick of fords i hate to see anybody buy one until they get better diesels in 'em.

If you guys wanna see who makes the best diesel, take a drive down the interstate and look.I go out of state all the time, just got home from Memphis Tn. today,on the way down and back i couldnt believe how many camper haulers i seen. There were at least 40 going south today coming from In,i seen 1 red duramax dually,6 powerstroke dually's and the rest were Dodge CUMMIN'S duallys. These guys make a living pulling trailers from IN to KY,TN,GA and FL,if there was a better engine than CUMMINS dont you think they would have bought one? WTF

I knew someone was gonna nail me on that one  Hey,can't beat free

TheRabbit 06-01-2008 07:07 AM

Hey,can't beat free
Fords would be free to me and I would rather pay for my duramax.
I don't like having to walk home from the races at 2 in the morning!! much less leave my race truck/ trailer on the side of the road all night!!(the ford i wouldn't mind leaving lol.) all kiding aside all three are good ,but for now ford has some serious diesel problems !
can somebody help my duramax get over 40 mpg??!! $4.75gal sucks.

If you guys wanna see who makes the best diesel, take a drive down the interstate and look.
The chevy guys were already there. the dodge guys are pulling the campers so they can use them when they break down!! lol
went to the races last night. not 1 truck pulling a race trailer was a dodge. 3 classes were won by chevys, 2 pulling with duramax, other was gas 454.
1 ford won a class, pulling with a duramax, but no dodges were even racing or pulling :?: :?: :? I guess they all went camping!! (i had to do it!!!!LOL)

mopar1968 06-01-2008 07:20 AM

:) The dodge's were at the other track  Really they had nothing to prove :!: Just let the powerchokes and duramax see whom were in second place :!:

ImBack 06-01-2008 07:36 PM

They are all 3 good trucks and engines i just like to keep the thread going LOL
