Motor is a 13.1 540 with a solid roller .726 int .737 exh dur at 50 around 274 int 284 exh ..can't remember exactly don't have card with me...but the question is "What size intake ports would be best for a 540 ci 7000 rpm max? " The prices are the same for 325 or 345. They sell a cnc ported 335 also and a 357 for much more money. I want to get the right ones but don't want to go too big. Again this is a 7000 rpm motor. Car is 3050 lb 1/8 mile bracket car with powerglide with brake. 5.14 gears and 32 x 14 tires. 5500 converter

Just wondering if your cam is a little small for 540 cu in? I was kinda thinking that your lifts should be around the 790s and 750s and around the 278 and 288? Just a thought.

I have been told that by a couple people on here. The cam was recomended by Crane,BUT, they recomended it for my current combination...which has a pair of bone stock 074 Aluminum heads. The thing is done by 6500 or so. I may change that later.
My main question isn't really which BRAND of head or what head in particular...as I know that opinions will vary greatly on that. What I really wanted to know was "How much head in terms of intake port volume would a 540 such as this need if the RPMS were kept at 7000 ? " I obviously don't want to buy too small, but at the same time it doesn't make much sense to put a head on it big enough to pull to 8000 rpm when I know I won't twist it that tight.

I am understanding that now Curtis has a smaller version of his Edlebrock24 deg for engines that are a little smaller than the original application was for. If he hs it developed yet that will surely be the best bang for the book.

Ed is right, .. there are now 3 versions of that casting / CnC porting.

All 3 are designed around 4.53" or larger bores, .. . but have three
different port cross sections, .. smaller is a 366cc head with a 2.3"
intake and flows and honest 435, .. the first one 380cc and flows 460, ..
and a new one still under development 390 cc, 480 cfm, ..

Don't put too much into the port cc number, .. these are very
fast airspeed ports with large valve bowls.

The Victor Jr CnC designed for 4.28" stock style bore blocks
is on hold until some design issues are fixed with that casting.

What is your opinion of the -2x Brodix heads with the 340 cc port? ARE they Too big for 7000 rpm 540 in a 3050 lb car? Would something around 320-325 be better ?

cboggs 01-16-2008 08:04 PM

The Brodix 2x 340 is one of my favorite castings to port, ..
it's a 26* head but still works very well, ..

Get the chamber cnc option, .. or have them professionaly ported.

Not to jump in on Curtis, but if you want I can send you the flow sheet that I got from Dart on the 380 heads.
